Prada Costabella cable car

Would you like to see an amazing view of Lake Garda? Go up Monte Baldo in the Prada Costabella Cable Car.

The lower station is at Prada (San Zeno di Montagna), at 1,000 m above sea level.

First a gondola lift and then a chairlift, both two-seaters, will take you to a height of 1,850 metres, where you will feel within touching distance of the sky.

When you reach the scenic terrace, you can take a relaxing stroll, admiring the wide variety of native flowers and herbs, spotting marmots and chamois, and enjoying lunch in a mountain hut.

For more experienced hikers, there are many trails at various levels of difficulty.

The route

The newly renovated Prada Costabella Cable Car reopened in August 2022 and is the only ski lift on the southern side of Monte Baldo.

The cable car ride consists of two sections; the first leg is in a two-seater gondola basket, starting from Prada at 1,000 metres above sea level and taking you up to Ortigaretta, at 1,550 metres asl. A distance of two kilometres and a journey time of 22 minutes.

The second section is by the Ortigaretta - Costabella two-seater chairlift and takes you up to 1,850 metres asl. A distance of one kilometre with a journey time of 10 minutes.

The cable car ride offers a stunning view of Lake Garda and the surrounding Alps, making the trip a truly unique experience. The newly renovated ski lifts ensure comfort and safety for all visitors, while also maintaining their charm and sense of tradition.

Mountain huts

The Prada Costabella cable car/Funivia Prada Costabella takes you up to four mountain huts offering a bar and restaurant service.

Some of these mountain huts also provide overnight accommodation, if you want the excitement of sleeping at altitude and waking at dawn to spot chamois and marmots on the meadows of Monte Baldo. Booking is advisable.

Mondini - Baito Turri Refuge / Rifugio Mondini - Baito Turri

This mountain hut is at Ortigaretta in the municipality of San Zeno di Montagna, and at a height of 1,550 metres asl. It's easy to reach by taking the Prada Costabella gondola up to the middle station.

In summer, the large scenic terrace overlooking the lake is the perfect venue for breakfast, aperitifs, or outdoor lunch. During the winter months, the scenic indoor dining room and historic fireplace provide a warm and pleasant setting.

Fiori del Baldo Refuge / Rifugio Fiori del Baldo

This mountain hut is at 1,850 metres asl, in the municipality of San Zeno di Montagna, and close to the top station of the Prada Costabella chairlift. From here, you get a panoramic view of the Monte Baldo mountain chain.

It is open from late spring to early autumn and offers a bar and restaurant service.

Chierego Refuge / Rifugio Chierego

This mountain hut is at a height of 1,911 metres; it stands on the ridge just below Cima Costabella, in the municipality of Brenzone sul Garda. It's about a 20-minute walk from the chairlift station, slightly uphill along an easy unpaved road.

It provides a bar, a restaurant and overnight accommodation, with 21 beds in rooms for 4 or 6 people.

Telegrafo Refuge / Rifugio Telegrafo

The Barana mountain hut is up on Monte Baldo in the municipality of Brenzone sul Garda; it is just a short distance from Cima Telegrafo, at a height of 2,147 metres, and in a dominant position above Lake Garda.

It is open every day from May to October, depending on the snow and the weather conditions.

This mountain hut offers bar and restaurant services, plus overnight stay in rooms for 2-4 or 8 people, for those who want the unique experience of sleeping at high altitude.
