History
The first "Prada - Costabella" cable car, constructed in 1967 for S.I.T. Costabella, came into operation in 1968.
The ski lift consisted of two sections right from the start: the first section was in a two-seater gondola basket and the second part in a single-seater chairlift.
The system underwent its first general overhaul in 1983 and worked without interruption for 15 years. It was then suspended for important maintenance work at the end of the 1998 season, and not reopened until 2004.
In 2004, the Municipalities of San Zeno di Montagna and Brenzone set up a company called Prada Costabella S.r.l., which acquired the cableway systems and carried out considerable maintenance work, restoring services in July 2005.
These ways of prolonging the technical life of the system allowed it to continue working until August 2013, when the whole structure was closed down.
After nine years of hard work and tenacity, the new cableway was proudly opened on 14 August 2022. It consisted of a two-seater gondola basket for the first section from Prada to Ortigaretta, and a two-seater chairlift to continue the journey to the summit, up at a height of 1,850 metres and near Cima Costabella.
With the reopening of the ski lifts, the Prada mountain area is now returning to its former glory, becoming a favourite destination for both local people and Italian and foreign tourists, who are attracted by the unspoiled setting.
In addition, thanks to the ready means of access, the area has now acquired a special value, creating a perfect union between Monte Baldo and the opportunity to enjoy it easily. The mountain is finally accessible to everyone, from families with children to people who are less young and fit.
